Welcome to Beth Stokes

Beth joined the SUM4Products Network as an Innovation Research Associate (InRA) in February and is based at the University of Bristol. Prior to joining the team, Beth was studying for her PhD at the University of Bath.

Beth's research
to date has focused on modelling the collective behaviour of systems of interacting individuals using a wide range of mathematical modelling techniques. Her research and mathematical interests span applications across biological, social and industrial problems. Working with the SUM4Products Network therefore presented the perfect opportunity for Beth to bring together her skills and interests and carry out research with real-world impact.

Beth looks forward to taking on a variety of projects through her work with the network and is keen to rise to the challenge of learning about new areas of maths (she had to give into the nominative determinism and work with fluids at some point!). Working in a collaborative and supportive environment such as the one created by the SUM4Products Network was something that also really appealed to Beth as she takes the next step on her academic path.

Beth is a passionate advocate for women and under-represented groups in STEM, often organising events for Ada Lovelace Day and International Women's Day and getting involved with initiatives such as Piscopia Initiative, Soapbox Science and Behind the Research. During her PhD, Beth also completed a work placement as a Communications and Recruitment Coordinator, developing her digital skills by creating research focused, promotional video content. Outside of mathematics, Beth can often be found reading, baking, knitting, or on long dog walks with her Border Terrier Daphne.

Welcome to the team, Beth!
