SUM4Products network events
-
Each year, the SUM4Products network will organise study groups, triaging workshops, and annual meetings. Development-focused events will also be organised. Special interest groups may organise their own events as well. All upcoming events will be listed on this page below.
-
Study groups are annual, week-long events where academic members of the network use mathematical techniques to address pressing challenges that are posed by our BIG partners. These events are based on European Study Groups with Industry, which are internationally recognised for being a cost-effective means of making real progress on current challenges in just a few days. After each study group, there will be a call for follow-up funding to continue project work.

-
Triaging workshops are short, online events for project scoping that will be held in partnership with the KE Hub.
During a triaging workshop, a single BIG partner presents their problem to an audience of academics. Afterwards, a network innovation research associate will build a consortium of academic members interested in the problem.
The consortium will develop the problem into a research project and apply for funding to work on it. Problems from triaging workshops can also be developed into study group problems.
-
As the network progresses, we will be setting up Special Interest Groups, bringing together academia and industry to tackle and discuss thematic challenges.
-
The network will hold an annual meeting to connect academic and BIG members, showcase research successes, and allow members to provide feedback on the network’s plans and activities.
Our next annual meeting is in September 2026 and will be held in Edinburgh. More information will be launched in July 2026.
